Snapshots Taken at Home
This section combines the shots taken at home or around Hobart that did not fit into other categories. Some locations are recognisable: the tram and the rider shots are taken from the house at Cavell Street. One Autographic negative was titled At Ridgeway 1920 and depicts three young men posing againts an elegant tower at Rigeway Dam. The construction of the dam was completed in 1918 so everything was still new when the shot was taken.
Three shots include a log hut of an ornate design. Several such huts were built in 1900s on Mount Wellington. The one in the photographs resembles Musk Hut in its final form which was completed in 1914. Maria Grist, a Tasmanian researcher, published a series of books on the history of log huts on Mount Wellington, including A Time-Line for the Musk Hut. The portrait of two ladies sitting under a fern tree was probably taken near the hut.
The last two frames with puppy and rabbits, and a group portrait are shot on 127 film in 4x6.5 cm format. Did the photographer upgrade his Kodak Autographic to a more modern camera by that time? Interestingly, there was also one frame from 35 mm cine film that appears to come from a movie roll. The actress looks vaguely familiar.
